Mangaluru: Groups clash over buntings at Katipalla, police intervene

Mangaluru, Nov 28: Tension prevailed for sometime at Katipalla here late night on Monday November 27 after a strip of bunting put up for Dharma Sansad came off while putting up buntings for Milad-un-Nabi.

It is learnt that in celebration of the upcoming Milad-un-Nabi or Eid Milad festivity, a group was putting up buntings at Katipalla.

Buntings of Dharma Sansad, the three-day religious parliament in Udupi by the VHP that ended on Sunday November 26, had also been put up at the same spot.

When the group was tying the buntings to an electric pole, one of the strips of Dharma Sansad bunting fell off.

Assuming that the buntings were being purposely removed, a group gathered at the spot and started raising objections.

Soon, a large crowd from both communities gathered and heated exchange of words ensued.

The police on receiving information rushed to the spot and managed to bring the situation under control.

Finally, after police intervention, both the groups dispersed from the spot.

    One of the pet project of Prime Minister Modi's 'Swachh Bharat'. But Mangalore Vishwa Hindu Parishad unit wanted to colour India with saffron bunting all over city.

    It is usual practice in India after any event it is another additional work for the civic servant apart from his daily routine.

    No bunting or banner comes free. For RSS funds comes indispensable. No matter this bunting is eaten away by 'stray cows'.

    I would request the civic authority to ban all kind of bunting, banners, hoardings related to any religious events to maintain the beauty of the city and law and order situation. Other than national days none should be allowed.

    Our rivers are dying fast in India. Instead of bunting it should one fruit bearing tree should be planted on the banks of rivers that will prevent soil erosion, evaporation and provides clean oxygen.

    Sorry to see rivalry for small reason.Just go to any hospital where people are struggling for their life and we are fighting for no reason.Even stone heart will melt here while seeing these poor people who are hold their breath for survival.

    It's the buntings that's been put, but it's the ego that's being displayed. Something that's done and over with doesn't need buntings, no one will.come and remove them either and eventually it will all be scattered around. And for name sake some people will go to a place with brooms and click pics and caption swach Bharat. First learn to clean your own mess. Secondly no permission should be given to any groups to put any buntings, it's nothing but just throwing around garbage. Within a day or two it will be all over the place.

    If it is a public area, the people putting up any material in support of any activity - be it commercial, religious, political - must seek advance permission from the respective authority, which could be panchayat, municipality, state or central government.

    The authority must charge some fee for allowing the material to be put up in the public area.

    With that, not only the authority gains some fee, but a public area is not misused by anyone.

    PS: Similar rules (permission with fees) should apply at all times for making use of public space for any processions or gatherings as well.
