New Delhi: Cleric beaten up by 3 youths in road rage case

New Delhi, Nov 30 (IANS): A cleric was beaten by three unknown bike-borne youths in a road rage incident here, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place around 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday in west Delhi's Bawana area, when Irshad Rehmani, who is in his 40s, and works in a Madarsa, was walking to his home in Bawana J.J colony.

"Three youths were riding the bike in a reckless manner. When the bike touched Rehmani, who was walking near the madarsa, he protested and asked them to drive slow in the crowded street," Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajneesh Gupta told IANS.

"The accused then slapped him multiple times and fled when Rehmani informed the police control room. It was a minor injury and there is no communal angle to it."

However, Rehmani alleged that the accused hurled religious slurs at him.

Gupta said that a case has been registered against the accused for voluntarily causing hurt and a probe is on to ascertain their identities.
