Cold wave continues in J&K


Srinagar, Dec 2 (IANS): Cold wave continued unabated in the valley as Leh town in Ladakh region witnessed the coldest night in Jammu and Kashmir at minus 8.7 degrees Celsius on Saturday.

Neighbouring Kargil town was at minus 7.6. "There is no immediate likelihood of any respite from the present cold, dry weather in the valley and other places in the state," a Met Department official said.

Night temperatures throughout the valley and the Ladakh region dropped several notches below the freezing point.

The minimum temperature was minus 1.5 in Srinagar while Pahalgam and Gulmarg recorded minus 2.5 and minus 2.0 as the minimum temperatures respectively.

Jammu city recorded 9.9, Katra town 9.6, Batote 5.5, Bannihal 0.8, Bhaderwah 2.8 and Udhampur 4.9 as the minimum temperatures of the day.
