EVMs rigged in UP civic polls, claims opposition; BJP calls charge an 'excuse'

Lucknow, Dec 2 (Agencies): A day after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the Uttar Pradesh civic polls claiming 14 out of the 16 mayoral seats, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav joined forces to question the saffron party's credibility.

They accused the BJP of tampering with the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the civic polls.

Earlier on Saturday, Mayawati challenged the BJP to remove the EVMs and start using ballot papers.

"If the BJP is honest and believes in democracy then they should discard the EVMs and conduct voting on ballot papers. The general elections are due in 2019. If the BJP believes people are with them, they must implement it. I can guarantee if ballot papers are used, the BJP won't come to power," Mayawati said.

The BSP won just two mayoral posts in Aligarh and Meerut, whereas, Congress and Samajwadi Party failed to win a single mayoral seat.

Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday took to Twitter to show that the BJP has won only in areas where EVMs were used.

"BJP has only won 15% seats in Ballot paper areas and 46% in EVM areas," he tweeted.

Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan said there was no tampering but a 'setting' in the civic polls.

"The BJP won wherever the EVMs were used, and the SP won wherever ballot papers were used," Khan said, alluding to the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls earlier this year.

Dismissing allegations, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday tore into the opposition parties and said, "While the BJP has maintained its credibility, the Congress is slowly becoming extinct. The results haven't been out yet and they have already started making excuses for their defeat."

No need court. People will come to the streets very soon to protest against this malpractice by BJP. If people realized their voting right is snatched, then see the scene across the country. So don't play with peoples' rights. Since EC & Courts failed to stop this tampering, people know how to stop this.

After Modi came to power, in Kerala Communists won, Punjab was won by Congress, Nitish won Bihar in Assembly elections and TMC made a complete sweep in local body elections in West Bengal. If BJP can tamper EVM, how come these states was won by opposition parties? It cannot be like when opposition parties win EVM is OK and when BJP win it is tampered with. Look into the mirror and ask your self. Do you really deserve a win? I am sure you will get the answer. Winners always have a plan, Losers always have an excuse .Evm has been there for more than ten years. these caste based parties are crying because caste vote bank are breaking

    @Desi Admi,
Same state and same time elections held in UP for Mayor, Nagar Nigam & Nagar Panchayat. BJP got 87% seats in Mayoral election (EVM used) and they got only 18% in Nagar Nigam and Nagar Panchayat (Ballot Paper used). How come????
Now it is clear that BJP winning the election only by rigging the EVMs. No Modi wave, No BJP wave, No RSS influence. It is proved that nobody likes saffron brigade in this country.

Last year all the political parties, including the AAP checked and understood the function of EVM by demonstration in Delhi. After a few months, they wanted VAPAT and now they want ballot papers. When AAP and Congress won, the EVM was perfectly functioned, but when BJP won, the EVM was tampered. In Punjab, Delhi and Bihar where the opposition won, the EVM did not tamper. An imminent defeat in Gujarat for Congress so they make noise. Thanks Rahul for your superb campaigning.

Why will people vote for a party like BJP which has brought misery , hardship, torture and disaster to the state???. Votes are 100% rigged. Without under hand malpractice BJP wouldn't have won. If it was like Sid's development in Karnataka then it is understandable even if EVMs were used. In that case one doesn't need EVMs.

    Shetty Sir,

The charges are real..., please recall.., it is even reported that on one occasion while exercising franchise by a voter in Meerut.., the BSP voter found the casting in favor of BJP in the machine..., later the machine was replaced..., Just to enlighten you about the reality...,
Honestly the FEKUISM is ramphant..., it is true & it is a fact..., the chip inside the EVM units are programmed with timer to capture the votes during the period of voting to give the desired & designed result..., and it is possible by setting with multiple algorithms to do this, I discussed with one eminent IT expert of Hindustani Origin from Southern State of Tamilnadu.

The future of Hindustan is going to be at the mercy of Lord Brahma..., only he can save our Country & the poor citizens from the menace of FEKUISM by granting the good sense to those who indulge in these kind of heinous acts of cheating...,

Sir, once again I only wonder.., to say the least that ..., Is there any scope of accepting the outcome with GRACE....!!!!

There is no reason for people to vote BJP whatsoever. They have not performed in anything, no development which Modi claims is utter lie. BJP doesn't have any moral and ethical ground to secure vote and win except the help of EVMs and setting with civic polls. There is no doubt polls were rigged. BJP doesn't deserve a victory. Can BJP dare Mayawati's challenge to go for polls without EVMs?!?!?!......Hai Dum.
