Chinese indulging in crime will be tried in Pakistan

Islamabad, Dec 12 (IANS): Chinese expatriates involved in criminal activities in Pakistan will face punitive action, officials said.

Pakistan has witnessed a rapid increase in the number of Chinese nationals due to development projects and joint ventures under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Some Chinese expatriates, however, were found to be involved in criminal activities including fraud, Dawn online reported.

The matter was discussed at a joint meeting of the Home Department and the Vice Consul General of China.

The consul said Beijing had no objection if legal action was taken against Chinese nationals for involvement in criminal activities.

A police official said no major offence committed by Chinese nationals had come into notice so far. But minor offences like getting drunk was common.

In March, two Chinese were arrested in Pakistan for ATM skimming fraud.
