Bangalore, Jul 12: State chief minister B S Yeddyurappa stoutly justified his action in engineering defections by legislators belonging to opposition parties, saying that he is indulging in this jugglery to ensure a stable five-year term for the government headed by himself.
Considering the stability needs of the government, those who are seeking admission into the BJP duly accepting BJP's policies and programmes, are being admitted. "We are not forcing anyone to come in, and once they become our members, it will be our responsibility to ensure their victory in the by-elections," he clarified.
Expressing anguish on the Congress party's complaint to the Governor about the horse trading going on in the state, he said that the people know what the Congress had done in the past. The Congress leaders seem to have lost their mental balance. Just wait and see, people will teach them a fitting lesson in the by-elections, he said with confidence.
To a question about the unrest among the party men over the induction of newcomers into the cabinet, the chief minister said that these were the figments of imagination floated by the media. Those leaders who were absent at the swearing in ceremony were busy with their work at various places, he clarified. For questions on free power and other poll assurances, he asked the people to wait and watch till the state budget is presented next week.
