26 killed in Philippines storm


Manila, Dec 18 (IANS): At least 26 people were killed and 46 were reported missing after a tropical storm battered the Philippines, an official said on Monday.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management official said that most of the people died in at least 17 landslides that hit four provinces triggered by the tropical storm Kai-Tak which made landfall on Saturday, reports Xinhua news agency.

At least 1,200 tourists were also stuck in Boracay Island beach resort which was 90 per cent flooded.

Many flights and ferry services were cancelled as a result of the tropical storm.
