BJP MLA calls Virat Kohli 'anti-national' for marrying in Italy

New Delhi, Dec 19: A BJP MLA has called Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli an 'anti-national' for choosing Italy over India, as his marriage destination.

Panna La Shakya, BJP MLA from Guna, Madhya Pradesh said that Kohli cannot be an inspiration to Indians as only those who are loyal deserve to be inspirations. "Virat has earned money and fame in India and he went to Italy to get married. Bhagwan Ram got married on this land, Bhagwan Krishna got married on this land and this man went to Italy to get married. He cannot be a 'Rashtra Bhakt (patriot)," he said after inaugurating Prime Minister's Skill India Centre in Guna.

"Dancers of Italy have become billionaires in India while Kohli took India's wealth out of the country," he said taking a dig at Sonia Gandhi.

Meanwhile, the Congress has termed Shakya’s outburst as an impact of the Gujarat polls.

"Their supreme leader questioned the integrity of a former army chief, a former prime minister and a former vice president to divide society and win votes in Gujarat. The BJP is now applying the same strategy in Madhya Pradesh," said Congress spokesman Pankaj Chaturvedi.

Such tactics won’t work in Madhya Pradesh, he said and termed the MLA's rant deplorable.

Netizens have taken to social media to troll Panna La Shakya for his statements.

Virat and Anushka Sharma got married at a private ceremony on December 11 in Tuscany, Italy with just family and close friends in attendance. They will be hosting a reception in New Delhi on December 21 and a grand gala affair in Mumbai for industry bigwigs and cricketers on December 26.

    According to data obtained from the Italian Ministry of the Interior , the total number of Indian citizens legally residing in Italy in 2016 were 169,394.

    Indian couple should not get married outside India, Lovers should not celebrate Valentine day, girls should not wear jeans, Mens should not wear suit, Schools should not celebrate Christmas/Eid, Youngsters should not celebrate New Year...... Sahi mein, "Mera Bharat badal raha hai" !!!

    This Idiot is an MLA? No wonder BJP Sucks. Everyone has the freedom to celebrate as he or she wishes. Whether to have the wedding in India or abroad is a personal choice. And with idiots like these who would want to have the ceremony in India?
    Most probably thought that he should have been invited as the VVIP at the wedding and got angry to be ignored.

    @jrome mangalore,why not get treated in foreign?One can go to his personal treatment or get marry wherever one want .So one can avoid much publicity from press and unwanted questions fro m people ,speculations etc.One has really peace of mind .Does this BJP want to try to have control over every personal things? Tomorrow might say want to see why they eat and what they eat.Horrible.One can travel anywhere one want .then why not marry in a personal atmosphere without much tam tam.Afterall he will be giving a Party in India.
