Bangalore, Jul 14: Legislators who deserted the Congress came in for severe tounge lashing in absentia, by opposition leader in the assembly Mallikarjun Kharge, who termed them as cowards. He also accused the BJP of flexing money and power to wrest his MLAs.
If these legislators had the capacity to win elections on their own, they could have contested the recent election as independent candidates. They did not have the potential to win on their own and hence got the 'B' form from the Congress by pestering the leaders and following every other available means. They won because of the image of the Congress and not because of individual charisma. However, these legislators are day-dreaming that they won because of their personal standing and charima. The people who deserted the Congress are cowards who are siding with the BJP solely because they are lured by money and power, he criticized, indirectly targetting film star Jaggesh.
Speaking at the the 'introspection meeting' organised by Padmanabhnagar constituency unit of the Congress party on Sunday at Bangalore, he claimed, that the youth workers of the party have already drafted plans for defeating the defecting legislators.
Soliciting support from the general public in this endeavour of the congress, he predicted that the BJP which has resorted to unethical practices to snatch away legislators from other parties, will face retribution for its misdeeds in near future. Saying that a national party like Congress does not depend on any indidividuals or groups of individuals for its survival, he ridiculed those who think that the party will be reduced to nowhere without their support. As long as democracy survives, Congress cannot be decimated, he declared, expressing confidence that the UPA led union government will win trust vote on July 22, 2008.
He pleaded with the people to give a clear majority to the Congress in the ensuing parliamentary elections to enable Congress to rise to power at the centre and pave way for the collapse of the BJP government in the state.
