CBI to move Delhi HC against special court's 2G scam verdict

New Delhi, Dec 21 (Deccan Chronicle): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday said it will move Delhi High Court against the Patiala House Court verdict in 2G spectrum allocation scam case.

Earlier on Thursday, the CBI had said that after examination of the judgement it was found that the evidence adduced to substantiate charges by the prosecution has not been appreciated in its proper perspective by the court.

The agency further stated that it will take necessary legal remedies regarding the 2G spectrum judgement.

The Patiala House Court in New Delhi on Thursday acquitted all the 19 accused, including former telecom minister A Raja, DMK MP Kanimozhi, in the Enforcement Directorate's money laundering case relating to the 2G scam.

Pronouncing the verdict on Thursday, the court said that the prosecution had failed miserably to prove any of its charges.

The NGO, Common Cause, had gone to court challenging Rakesh Asthana’s present CBI Directors appointment on the grounds that his name had figured in a 2011 diary seized from Sterling Biotech – a company being probed by the CBI for money laundering – as the alleged recipient of payments worth Rs 3.8 crore. The diary in turn became the basis for the CBI to file an FIR in August 2017 against the firm’s promoters and “other unknown public servants and private persons.” Asthana was not named in the FIR but was presumably the subject of an ongoing investigation by his own agency.
The Supreme Court has dismissed a plea challenging the appointment of senior Gujarat cadre IPS officer Rakesh Asthana as a special director of the CBI who was handpicked by the PM Modi government.
The judgment remains unconvincing, both by the Supreme Court’s own standards of ensuring probity in public life and the requirements of institutional integrity.

This is first time in the history of India such premier investigation agency headed by Director who has involved in corruption investigated by his own agency.

A plain truth of 'Good governance'.

Once our politicians and Ramdev started telling that there is lot of illegal money in swiss bank and we got the list and if we are elected we will put the people in jail within 100 days. The money in swiss bank is enough for each Indian may have the share of 15 lac each. 2g scam, Bofors, Adarsh case...... All they were promising that the culprits will get punishment if we are elected. Congress is feeding Biryani to Kasab . Kasab got punishment during old government if otherwise he also would have got now clean chit. All politicians are fooling people and some are preparing only list but no development.
