Udupi, Jul 15: State minister for Co-Operatives Laxman Savadi inaugurated Vikas Multi-Purpose Souharda Co-Operative Society located at Karkala, at a function held at Manjunath Pai Auditorium, Karkala on Monday July 14 afternoon.
The minister, speaking on the occasion, observed that the cooperative societies that take care to maintain efficiency during the early years tend to disregard this aspect totally later. For the cooperative movement to gain ground and the societies to achieve significant progress, they will have to serving their customer with trust, honesty, flexibility and commitment. If co-operative societies become more customer-friendly they certainly have a very bright future, he stated.
The minister also assured that he would try his best to implement Vaidyanathan committee report in the state, and the government is reflecting on the changes to be brought about in the cooperative sector to make them vibrant and independent. Necessary amendment bills to the Co-Operative Societies Act will be presented during the winter session of legislative assembly after holding meetings in order to gather opinions in this regard, he explained.
Speaking to the media persons later, Laxman Savadi said that Sahakar Bhavan will be constructed in the state capital at a cost of Rs 20 crore. Besides, a state-level cooperative convention will be held either in Bangalore or Dharwad by November 2008, he revealed.
