Mangalore: City to Have its Own Green Belt - MLA

Mangalore, Jul 15: Under the comprehensive development plan of the Mangalore Urban Development Authority (MUDA), Kadri temple, Kadri park and other areas located in their neighbourhood are likely be declared as a 'Green Belt' by the state government, said MLA N Yogish Bhat. The plan however, has not yet been finalised, he confessed.

Speaking after laying the foundaiton stone for the 'Yatri Nivas' in the temple premises on Monday July 14, Bhat requested the temple authorities to continue to maintain greenery around the temple.

Managing trustee of the temple A J Shetty said that Yatri Nivas with 26 rooms, is being built at a cost of Rs 46 lac atop the existing building next to the temple entrance.

District Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura requested the government to ensure that construction acvities around the temple will not result in drying up of the water resources of the temple.

Former minister B Nagaraj Shetty was present.
