Doha: ICC Rapid Chess Championship has record participation

Doha, Dec 25: This year the Indian Cultural Centre Rapid Chess championship witnessed participation from students under nine years, under 12 years, under 15 years and adult categories.

Stiff competitions were held amongst the participants in which awards were distributed to the winners. The competition was held at Ashoka Hall of ICC. The award ceremony was held at ICC Mumbai Hall where counselor at Indian Embassy and coordinating officer of ICC Rajesh Kamble was the chief guest.

The ceremony was also attended by first Qatari grand master and general secretary of Qatar Chess Association Mohammed Al-Modiahki.



Kamble appreciated ICC for conducting this event which will help students develop their skills not only in sports but also their cognitive skills. Modiahki in his speech stressed the contribution of India in the field of chess and recalled his competition with Indian grand masters in the early days. He also congratulated ICC for organizing the event.

A memento was presented to Modiahki by Kamble on behalf of ICC. ICC president Milan Arun presented the memento to Shukoor, representative of M/s New Madinat Hypermarket, the main sponsor of the event. Prize distribution to all categories were conducted by Kamble, Modiahki, Milan Arun and Shukoor respectively.

The competition was coordinated by ICC head of sports and external affairs Adv Jaffar Khan. The ceremony was conducted by ICC head of counselor services K S Prasad and ICC president Milan Arun welcomed the audience. Welcome bouquets to guests were presented by Jaffar Khan, heneral decretary Juttas Paul and vice president A P Manikantan respectively. Head of in-house activities Anjan Ganguly proposed the vote of thanks.

The overall championship was received by Delhi Public School and runner up was Birla Public School.
