Pune, Dec 26: A unique bicycle rally of ten women and three men left Pune early morning on December 19 on an expedition to Kanykumari. The team plans to reach their destination on January 3, 2018.
The group of 13 cyclists has the youngest rider being 35 years of age and the oldest 70 years. This cycling expedition is to spread awareness about nature conservation by adopting cycling. The group consists of 10 women and 3 men riding a distance of 1500 kms in 16 days. They are currently in Udupi and will reach Mangaluru on December 26 at around 1 pm and will stay at Hotel Ayodhya.
The rally is unique in several senses. The group has thirteen cycle loving persons. The group includes five women and two men who are above 60 years. They come from diverse walks of life like and qualification. One lady is retired head of department of Mathematics in Pune University, three are practicing lawyers, housewives, teacher, trade unionist, bankers, and small scale industrialist. In the past, many of them have done number of group cycling expiations across the country. They represent cross section of society. However their common interest is ‘Conserve Nature by adopting cycling and save Mother Nature’. The rally will be covering modest average distance of 100 km cycling daily. It will travel thorough states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Members are confident that they will complete the rally successfully and return to hometown as per schedule.
Mangalore Bicycle Club believe, this is the first time a group consisting majority of women riders riding such a distance are passing by Mangaluru and their members are excited about this humongous effort. The group will be heading towards Kerala on December 27 and more than 15 members of Mangalore Bicycle Club will join them for a distance of 20-25 kms, joining hands with them on their mission.
