Manish Tewari targets Modi, compares him to 'bad Santa'

New Delhi, Dec 26 (DHNS): Congress on Tuesday took potshots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on demonetisation and GST, comparing him obliquely to 'bad Santa' who is an "an old man with a white beard".

Senior Congress leader Manish Tewari tweeted a day after Christmas to say that the real Santa gave gifts to people but the Indian version left them only with socks.
"All over the world at this time an old man with a white beard creeps in your house through chimney and puts money in your socks. In India an old man with a white beard crept into your house through TV, removed money from your pockets, cupboards, lockers & left you only in your socks," he tweeted.

Tewari did not name anyone but his aim was amply clear with his reference to TV. Modi had a televised address last year in November to announce demonetisation and the Congress-led Opposition was up in arms against the government over the move since then.

He had earlier landed in trouble with a tweet in which he used expletives to describe Modi. Tewari's comments also come against the backdrop of Mani Shankar Aiyar's remarks against Modi, whom Aiyar described as "neech" (lowly). Congress president Rahul Gandhi had suspended Aiyar over his remarks while warning against use of indecent words.
