Udupi, Jul 17: A watchman, posted at an under-construction house under at Chitpady near here, was found murdered.

The deceased, about 40 years old and unmarried, has been identified as Ramesh from Dendurkatte. He rarely visited his native place Dendurkatte. He was working as watchman of a house being constructed by Bhaskar Somayaji from Parkala and used to live in an old house nearby this site. The policemen suspect that the murder took place about two days back.

A meter reader of KPTCL, who searched for the watchman to deliver the bills on Wednesday July 16, found him murdered in a bathroom located near the house. He passed on this information to Somayaji who in turn, filed a complaint with the town police station.

Blood marks were found both at the spot of murder and on the body of the murdered person. The neck of the watchman bore deep cuts caused by a saber. A saber, some playing cards and a liquor bottle were recovered from the spot. It also appears, that the body of Ramesh was dragged to the bath room for dumping it there.

Reasons for the murder might be either some brawl caused over frivolous arguments during the card game or a result of illicit relationship. It is gathered, that a woman used to visit the murdered watchman and there are suspicions too, that she might be the reason behind the murder.

Sniffer dogs were called but could not make any headway. Experts from Manipal forensic laboratory visited spot and verified the available clues.

In-charge superintendent of police M B Nagaraj, circle police inspector Ganesh Hegde and sub-inspector Prakash visited the spot. Post mortem was conducted at Manipal hospital.
