Sharjah, Jan 1: Indian Social Forum, Northern States Committee, Riyadh organized a public programme at Le Royal Auditorium, Malaz, Riyadh to mark the 25th anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition.
The event was presided over by Indian Social Forum Northern States coordinator Nawab Hussain. In his presidential notes he highlighted the welfare activities of the forum rendered to the expatriates residing in Saudi Arabia. He also explained the present political situation and importance of political empowerment of Indian Muslims.
Indian Social Forum Central Committee president, Koya Faroke inaugurated the event. Addressing the gathering, he said, "It is now 25 years since Indian Muslims have been awaiting justice from the Indian constitution and democracy."
Delivering the keynote, Indian Social Forum northern states vice president Fahimuddin emphasized the background of the Babri Masjid and how it was planned and demolished by the fascist forces of Hindutva. He portrayed Babri Masjid demolition event with clear and historical facts to the audience and asked them to pass the message on to their upcoming generations. He also remembered the contribution of the Muslim community during the freedom struggle and in building the nation. "Proponents of Hindutva are continuing their ideology right from the assassination of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi to social activist Gauri Lankesh. Since the rule of BJP Government, there has been a steep rise of communal violence against minorities, Dalits and other backward classes. This Hindutva ideology can only be defeated by unity and resistance from the Muslim community."
Speaking on the occasion Salman Khaled, vice president Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association (AMUOBA) highlighted the importance of education in empowering the community.
Sulaiman Akhtar welcomed the gathering. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks from Siraj Falhi Bihar, state coordinator Indian Social Forum. Around hundreds of people participated in the event.
