Mangalore, Jul 23: For the election for the presidentship of the district units of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Monday July 21 was the last day for filing of nominations. R Nagesh Kumar from Mangalore, Sathish Salian from Sanoor Moodbidri and M B Sadashiv from Sullia filed their nominations on the last day, taking to the total number of contestants for the post to five.
In Udupi district however, only two nominations were filed. Writer, yakshagana artiste and retired teacher Ambatanaya Mudradi had filed his nomination on the first day the process started on July 14. On the last day Dr K S Karanth, a psychiatrist from Kundapur filed his nomination papers.
It is said that efforts are on to unanimously elect Ambatanaya Mudradi as a consensus candidate. Even if an election ensues, he stands a good chance of winning, as the immediate past district president of the Parishat Uppunda Chandrashekhar Holla and ex-state Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Harikrishna Punaroor are said to be backing his candidature.
