Udupi, Jul 26: The blasts that played havoc with the confidence of the citizens living in Bangalore seem to have had a ripple affect on the entire state. The police have fortified the security arrangements around Sri Krishna Math and Kollur Sri Mookambike temple, which are the most important centres of faith in the district.

Sniffer dogs were pressed into service around Sri Krishna Math here. At night, the squad was dispatched to Kollur to conduct a thorough check there.  The dog squad was taken around KSRTC bus stand, city bus stand, service bus stand, Big Bazar commercial complex etc., before being sent to Kollur.

The threat to Sri Krishna Math here has given impetus to the long-drawn proposal of making the Car Street a vehicle-free zone. The district administration in the past had received various suggestions towards operationalising this move and had also expressed its decision to take a concrete decision on these proposals after April 1 this year. In view of the need to tighten the security, the district administration is likely to take measures in this direction as soon as possible.  It may be recalled that the intelligence wing had long back warned that Sri Krishna Math and Kollur temple run the risk of being targetted by terrorists.

Extra vigil is being kept in the district because of the blasts at Bangalore. Deputy commissioner P Hemalata has expressed her desire to take a final decision to make the Car Street a vehicle-free zone soon. In charge superintendent of police M B Nagaraj has said that the police has beefed up security both in Kollur and Udupi.
