Class 12 student shoots dead school principal in Haryana

Yamunanagar, Jan 20 (IANS): The principal of one of the leading schools in Haryana's Yamunanagar was on Saturday shot dead by a Class 12 student in the school, police said.

Principal Ritu Chhabra was shot at thrice by the suspended Class 12 student during a meeting with his parents in the premises of Swami Vivekanand Public School in the city.

The student had been recently suspended and expelled from the school.

Police said the boy's father is a financier and the pistol used in the incident belonged to the father and is a licensed one.

"School staff, students and teachers caught the accused while he was trying to escape and handed him over to police," said a senior police officer.

Police said that prima facie investigations suggest that the boy was accompanied by at least one of his friends.

More than five rounds were fired, triggering panic and horror among the school staff, teachers and students.

The injured principal was rushed to hospital and declared dead by doctors after some time.

Unsafe at workplaces, public spaces and everywhere else, but certainly not the school is what you and I always thought. But a spate of crimes against children, from murder to rape to sexual assault, makes us rethink if the school is indeed a child’s second home.
Only fees increasing in India but educational standard is rapidly declining. In my time we didn't even have proper cloth to wear. One Anna in our time is dream come true. Our school bags never loaded like the one they carry these days. Too little to eat, too little to wear our responsibility on our shoulder is more.We all grown up professionals with great efforts. But we all have great respect to our teachers after our parents among them many of them reached paradise.
If we, as parents, are going wrong in some measure, the school management, teachers, principals, and attendants are to be squarely blamed for being the ground for such activities that could have been prevented. If only there had been more alertness, concern and sensitivity on their part.
Instead of stopping at building higher walls and installing cameras, schools need to focus on employing qualified, accessible counsellors. Parents, teachers and school administrations need to come together to make children feel safe, nurtured, and cared for, if such horrific incidents are to be stopped.
Nowhere in the 1.8 million words of Vyasa’s Mahabharata is there a mention of a Gurugram as it stands on the present day area of Gurgaon. The Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s cabinet renamed Gurgaon to Gurugram. When mythology becomes history, Gurgaon becomes Gurugram and the crime continues unabated. It was Guru's day in Gurugram after CM Yogi's class 1 attacked.
We all grown up reading Eklavya story of 'Guru Dakshina'. But BJP ruled Haryana Gurugram has now different narrative.
Guns, knife and saffronisation of education system,If we don't act now, let's brace ourselves for more gruesome crimes against India's youngest citizens.

SMR karkala,Now western cowboys fighting has reached our India.why should we blame school teachers, headmasters? How good are we as parents.?How could the pistole came to the sons hand?why was it not under lock by father.?Father is responsible for this .He completely neglected his responsibility. He should be arrested.when at home parents cant control their filius ,how can teachers in school control so many.?Father busy with his finance account. Not bothered about sons bad notes? Not enough to put a bundle of notes in hand and say study,or take tution.Until his son was suspended ,probably they didnt have any clue about his marks.Of course not all students are bright.but parents too have some responsibility not to come to that extend of shooting teacher.May his soul rest in peace. Our parents used to scold us and were sitting near us until we do home work.go to school to inquire.Today only smartphone does .because we dont have time for our child.

    RIP Principal.

Very Sad. It is very difficult if teens have easy access to weapon like this. Father should also be booked along with his son.

Are we saying School Teachers and Principal also need security for threat from students? Very Sorry state of affairs.
