Mangalore:Bomb Scare in Mangalore: Three-Hour 'Suitcase' Drama Unfolds

Mangalore, Jul 28:The city police finally heaved a sigh of relief, as the dreaded suitcase was found to be not containing any harmful objects upon opening it.
J C Alva, a businessman residing in Kavoor, reportedly had left his suitcase in his car. The suitcase contained some documents and cheques and a small amount of cash. His wife took this car to a diagnostic laboatory later. He stated, his wife had not noticed this suitcase lying in the car. When the car reached his home back, K C Alva noticed that the bag was missing.
Immediately, he contacted the Kavoor police station. The police there informed him that, a unclaimed suitcase was found in the central market and it had been kept at Nehru Maidan
J C Alva rushed the spot and opened the suitcase. The police finally heaved a sigh of relief. The suitcase drama had a filmy end to it within a span of three hours since it started. It is presumed, that the thief, sighting a police outpost at the Central Market, abandoned it there.
Funniest moments:
Bomb scare makes people run away for kilometers to save themselves from its affects. But the people here rushed towards Nehru Maidan just to have a glimpse of the suitcase. The suitcase was covered with sand bags and even barricades were place around it to avoid the entry of any person near that suitcase.
Suddenly, a certain Ravi from Lalbagh in the city rushed towards the suitcase and started running awau after picking it in his hands. Immediately, the police caught hold of him and took him into the custody. But this incident entertained the mob which was watching it keenly.
Order and commonsense:
When the police found the suitcase at central market, they immediately brought it to the Nehru Maidan. Later they informed the control room about the suitcase. But the control room authorities took these police into task for bringing this suitcase to Nehru Maidan, without their permission. The police again took the suitcase back to the central market!
Later the police brought it back to Nehru Maidan only after getting permission from higher officials.
Finally the suitcase issue founda happy ending. But it raised questions about the efficiency of the police. The police could not open the suitcase as they had no sophisticated equipments to handle it.

Mangalore, Jul 28: The abandoned suitcase that was found in the Central Market in the city and which was suspected to contain bomb or explosives, was opened after a long wait. It was found that it did not contain any explosives.
A person named J C Alva claimed that the suitcase belonged to him and that someone had stolen it. The police clarified that the suitcase which was opened, did not contain any harmful things. The citizens, who had developed cold feet over the prospects of the city reeling under the terrorist threat, heaved a sigh of relief !

Mangalore, Jul 28: Panic spread all over Central Market and surrounding areas in the heart of the city in the afternoon on Monday July 28, after a suitcase was found abandoned in the central market premises at about 1 pm. The police were informed of the deserted baggage. The police and sniffer dogs rushed to the spot as soon the information was conveyed to them. The sniffer dogs started barking the moment they sniffed the abandoned suitcase.
Overcome by fear, the people ran helter-skelter thereafter. The suitcase was then removed from the spot and taken to Nehru Maidan, where it has been kept now. The suitcase has been covered on all sides by sand bags. District deputy commissioenr M Maheshwar Rao, superintendent of police Satheesh Kumar, DySP Dharmaiah and other police officers have arrived at the spot and guiding the operations. Curious citizens in large numbers have gathered at the spot to witness the proceedings and policemen are struggling to control the crowd.
Sources have informed that the district police do not have their own bomb defusing squad and hence a squad is being rushed from Bangalore. The squad after its arrival here has to defuse the bomb.
