Mangalore, Jul 28:The city police finally heaved a sigh of relief, as the dreaded suitcase was found to be not containing any harmful objects upon opening it.

J C Alva, a businessman residing in Kavoor, reportedly had left his suitcase in his car. The suitcase contained some documents and cheques and a small amount of cash. His wife took this car to a diagnostic laboatory later. He stated, his wife had  not noticed this suitcase lying in the car. When the car reached his home back, K C Alva noticed that the bag was missing.

Immediately, he contacted the Kavoor police station. The police there informed him that, a unclaimed suitcase was found in the central market and it had been kept at Nehru Maidan

J C Alva rushed the spot and opened the suitcase. The police finally heaved a sigh of relief. The suitcase drama had a filmy end to it within a span of three hours since it started. It is presumed, that the thief, sighting a police outpost at the Central Market, abandoned it there.

Funniest moments:

Bomb scare makes people run away for kilometers to save themselves from its affects. But the people here rushed towards Nehru Maidan just to have a glimpse of the suitcase. The suitcase was covered with sand bags and even barricades were place around it to avoid the entry of any person near that suitcase.

Suddenly, a certain Ravi from Lalbagh in the city rushed towards the suitcase and started running awau after picking it in his hands. Immediately, the police caught hold of him and took him into the custody. But this incident entertained the mob which was watching it keenly.

Order and commonsense:

When the police found the suitcase at central market, they immediately brought it to the Nehru Maidan. Later they informed the control room about the suitcase. But the control room authorities took these police into task for bringing this suitcase to Nehru Maidan, without their permission. The police again took the suitcase back to the central market!

Later the police brought it back to Nehru Maidan only after getting permission from higher officials.

Finally the suitcase issue founda happy ending. But it raised questions about the efficiency of the police. The police could not open the suitcase as they had no sophisticated equipments to handle it.

Mangalore, Jul  28: The abandoned suitcase that was found in the Central Market in the city and which was suspected to contain bomb or explosives, was opened after a long wait. It was found that it did not contain any explosives.

A person named J C Alva claimed that the suitcase belonged to him and that someone had stolen it. The police clarified that the suitcase which was opened, did not contain any harmful things. The citizens, who had developed cold feet over the prospects of the city reeling under the terrorist threat, heaved a sigh of relief !

Mangalore, Jul 28: Panic spread all over Central Market and surrounding areas in the heart of the city in the afternoon on Monday July 28, after a suitcase was found abandoned in the central market premises at about 1 pm. The police were informed of the deserted baggage. The police and sniffer dogs rushed to the spot as soon the information was conveyed to them. The sniffer dogs started barking the moment they sniffed the abandoned suitcase.

Overcome by fear, the people ran helter-skelter thereafter. The suitcase was then removed from the spot and taken to Nehru Maidan, where it has been kept now. The suitcase has been covered on all sides by sand bags. District deputy commissioenr M Maheshwar Rao, superintendent of police Satheesh Kumar, DySP Dharmaiah and other police officers have arrived at the spot and guiding the operations.  Curious citizens in large numbers have gathered at the spot to witness the proceedings and policemen are struggling to control the crowd.

Sources have informed that the district police do not have their own bomb defusing squad and hence a squad is being rushed from Bangalore. The squad after its arrival here has to defuse the bomb.

I agree with the statement given by Shanti, Mangalore. Police have done good job by bringing the suitcase back to Nehru Maidan. Why others are giving unnecessary suggestions? Do they know the pain, efforts, struggle and dedication of police department? Do they know how Shri. Sathish Kumar (SP), and other police officers from day to night for the public?

Just spare one day with them and you all will come to know their hard work. Its very easy to give unnecessary statements by sitting infront of computer without knowing the works, efforts, dedication and responsibilities of the police department and officers. Police officers are trying their level best....Just think thrice before giving light statements...Pls...

Look like it was arranged drama or police & media people taking training in Nehru maidan. From the graphics and details, watch professional move (every step taken) by police, taking pictures by media (15 persons) and mockery of the public. About the public : It looks like people in Mangalore watching Mangalore circus as they are entertained specially during week-end. Are they idle ? They need to give account.

Also even if something saved it would go to bar or gadang in the evening. Watch the dog:.: mujjhi deena naayeeg dahlla thinayara paddhigi. Naayi barri korrepundu. Bhagdu(bag) Kuddlada buttai ejiandha bangude padudhipooudu !!

Finally the bomb has arrived at Mangalore. Response of the Police Dept is exemplary. But what are they trying to do. The photos speaks the sad side of DK Police lacking the experience in case of Bomb threat. Firstly, I am watching one sniffer dog (labradour breed) reaching every spot in mangalore like a super dog which does not need any rest. Its tiered now and will bark on every occassion when it master pushes it over time. (sniffer dogs on duty bark only when they locate explosives as they are trained for )

Secondly, what is that Sub-Inspector trying to do with a metal detactor moving it over the brief case. What is he trying to detect. The hand held metal detector(HHMD) only detects metal and the brief case has metal parts which will start beeping whenever the HHMD is brought close to any metal object. Is he immune to blast. There is no word like SORRY while handling explosives/bombs. People are taking it so lightly and are gathering around the brief case. In case if it is a IED fitted brief case , definetely it will riff off all the onlookers and the audience without saying sorry.

Police should identify at least some of the onlookers and book them for hindering police work. Then only people will learn lesson Were the people there waiting for compensation of 1 lakh for their families or they wanted to become 'Martyrs for no cause and also to get some 15 seconds of fame on TV?. It is utter non-sense. What were those hundreds of people doing around the suitcase. If it was a real one, casualties would have been in hundreds if not housands.

I am surprised and ashamed that there are so many unemployed/shameless men in Mangalore who can watch such things - they are there in all incidents that Daiji projects. These men find that the household works are meant for their ladies and works like agriculture is below their dignity. Hence, loitering around the city is their birthright.... I hope they begin to introspect, henceforth on such matters.

They have done every don'ts of handling a suspected bomb. Tinkered, moved, touched, approached. What a pity! even senior officials have approached the bomb when it was not covered sufficiently. First of all, the bomb should have left untouched at the place where it was found. Had it been a real bomb, God knows when it was timed to explode. Or even the bomber himself can trigger it watching it on live on TV to get maximum mileage.

The suitcase looks very classy.... remove the bomb and keep the suitcase. Whats wrong with them... why they have to destroy such a nice suitcase with a tiny bomb.

We have to very carefull between Bangalore/Mangalore. Very easy route to terrorists for movement between two cities.Thank to God & police department because they have given warning to all the people that if, anybody find any kind of things on the movement place must be informed to the department. This is very good advise from the department. Better make fast arrangement to bring Bomb defusing squad. Better we too keep Hawk eyed with the suspected people and inform the Police officials.

Dear all, I think this is may be somebody wanted to fool or else the guys who want to make bombblast in mangalore then they want to divert the police mind. If any bomblasted in mlore means it will be the first in Empire mall, there it is very easy to fix there is no security nothing.

It’s very strange to know that we have to depend on Bangalore based bomb squad. It’s red alert time allover India, so public should be aware of strange people and things like this unclaimed bag.

Hats off to the Mangalore district police for averting a major tragedy, by shifting the suitacase to an open ground when the chances in case of an explosion the damages shall be negligible. The concerned policemen should be honored for their quick wittedness. Also it is a pity they are not equipped with bomb diposal squads or even personnel with the knowledge of defusing it. Its high time the top brass gave it a thought and send some person from the department for training in case of emergencies like this.
