Mangalore, Jul 28: Competitions being organized for donning various roles from mythology do not entail at wearing make up and costumes alone. Achieving better refinement is the real purpose of organizing such competitions. Participating in competitions is not enough but getting refinement is, said Mangalore south MLA Yogish Bhat.
He was speaking after initiating children's competitions for donning different mythological characters, organized under the aegis of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) on Sunday July 27 at Sharada Vidyalaya here.
Lord Rama and Lord Krishna are the ideal characters for all the Indians. There is a need to keep children educated about various divine plays Lord Krishna exhibited when he was very young. The efforts being made by ISKCON in this direction are praiseworthy, Bhat added.
Chanting of 'Hare Krishna' hymn as also incantation of holy verses gives impetus to hidden powers. Children and their parents should keep chanting the Lord's praises both at home and elsewhere. The way Lord Krishna conducted himself at the war front is a model for those preparing for a battle to emulate, Bhat explained.
ISKCON local branch head Premabhakti Prabhu presided and gave details of various programmes the organization has taken up in different schools, for the mental progress of children. Vice-principal Dayanand was present. Vijay Kumar proposed vote of thanks.
Competitions like fancy dress, devotional songs, Rangoli etc., succeeded in entertaining the audience as well as the participants. More than 100 students from different schools took part in the competitions with lot of enthusiasm.
