Puttur, Jan 24: It was indeed a joyous day for the parishioners of Mai De Deus Church to join and celebrate together the community day on January 21.

To mark the celebration, the Eucharistic Mass was held at 9.00 am which was officiated by Fr Nelson D‘Almeida, professor at St Joseph’s Seminary, Mangaluru. In his homily, he called upon the faithful to contribute generously for building of the church because each one is part of the Body of Christ. The Eucharist was concelebrated by Fr Alfred Pinto, the parish priest, Fr Praveen D’Souza, the assistant parish priest, Fr Rithesh Rodrigues, professor, St Philomena College, and Fr Valerian
Mascarenhas, resident priest. As the diocese has dedicated this year to the Holy Rosary, the Logo of Holy Rosary was symbolically inaugurated by the celebrants.

Holy Eucharist was followed by a unique and meaningful cultural programme which was held at Mai De Deus Church hall at 10.30 am. Fr Mark Castelino, parish priest of Mogarnad was the Chief Guest. Three outstanding parishioners who had rendered yeoman service were honoured. The eminent persons were Agnes Rodrigues, Joe D’Souza and Baptist Tauro. The selfless services of 19 wards’ gurkars were recognised and honoured. A well organised cultural programme by catechism children and the teachers was appreciable and was befitting for the day. The celebration reached its climax with the festive meal which was prepared and contributed by the parishioners.
