Mangaluru, Jan 24: The department of English at St Aloysius College (autonomous) on January 25 will organise a national seminar on ‘Society, Culture and Modern Intellectuals’ at the Fr Robert Sequiera Hall, LCRI Block at the campus.
The seminar aims at addressing concerns of countering the regressive with the progressive by placing contemporary intellectuals in relation to the changing dynamics of culture and society.
The seminar will be inaugurated at 9.30 am. The chief guest will be Dr Vincent Alva, principal, Milagres College, Kallianpura, Udupi. Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ, rector, St Aloysius Institutions will preside over the function. Dr Praveen Martis SJ, principal, St Aloysius College, will also be present.
Two sessions will be taken up by Dr Prasad Pannian, associate professor, department of English, Central University of Kerala, Kasargod and Dr R, Shashidhar, professor, department of English, Mangalore University. Papers will also be presented. Dr Ratan T Mohunta, HOD English, will be the convenor for the seminar and Anup D Veigas from the department of English will be the organizing secretary.
About St Aloysius College
St Aloysius College is a one hundred and thirty eight year old institution that has trained thousands of men and women in various fields and presented them to the nation. Named after St Aloysius Gonzaga and founded by the Mangalore Jesuit Educational Society, the college aims to create men and women for others by reinforcing the motto ‘Lucet et Ardet’, which means ‘Shine to Enkindle’.
