Mangalore, Jul 29: Harinath, Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) opposition leader has warned that he would lock up the MCC premises if the corporation administration fails to implement development programmes. He also accused mayor Ganesh Hosabettu of failing to conduct any developmental works after getting elevated to the post.
Addressing a press conference organized at the Patrika Bhavan here on Monday July 28, he said that the mayor had failed to implement development programmes in the city. The five-month rule of the BJP here has not witnessed a single development work so far, he complained. The corporation has to convene monthly council sessions once a month but this time, even after 45 days, the council is yet to meet. There is a heavy rush of people at the corporation office, of those who have been harassed with unreasonable water bills issued by meter readers. Their problems are not being addressed promptly, he said.
He also accused BJP of stopping the Rs 15 lac development fund allocated to individual corporators. The MCC has failed to collect property and other taxes and as against a target of Rs 1.90 crore for the entire year, it could collect only Rs 85 lac, he said.
Harinath blamed BJP for neglecting the opposition. He also criticized the previous corporation commissioner's action in suspending three engineers without holding any inquiries. Suspension of one of the engineers however was revoked immediately, thanks to his political clout, he said.
Former MCC mayors Ashraf and Shashidhar Hegde were present at the press conference.
