Udupi: Music Contest Seeking Talented College Students, Begins Aug 2

Udupi, Jul 30: The ‘Karavali Sangeet Kalavidara Okkoota’ will be organizing a district-level talent contest for college students in three taluks of the district. The contest in Karkala will be at 3.00 pm on Saturday, August 2, at Galaxy hall.

The one in Kundapur will be at 3.00 pm on Saturday, August 9, at Government Junior College, and in Udupi it will be at 10.00 am on Sunday, August 10, at the Ravindra Mantap in MGM College.  Prizes will be awarded to three toppers at Ravindra Mantap, on the same day, said Satish Suratkal, chief secretary, Karavali Sangeet Kalavidara Okkoota, in a press conference.

He also informed that ‘Monsoon Dhamaka ‘08’, a musical concert, will be held at Poornaprajna College here at 5.30 pm on Sunday, August 17, as a fund raiser to benefit needy musicians. Popular hits from Hindi and Kannada movies, including songs of Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Mukesh, Lata Mangeshkar, S Janaki, P B Srinivas, S P Balasubramanium, and Dr Rajkumar, would be part of the programme.
 
Gangaram Master, an ace musician who is now facing financial hardships, will also be honoured on the occasion, informed Suratkal.  Kishore Kumar, president, Udupi district, Satish Udupi, secretary, Ashok Bhaskar, Prem Kumar, and Sangeeta Balachandra, were also present.
