Dubai, Jul 30: A Lebanese pop star who had been in hiding for eight months, has been found stabbed to death in Dubai.
Suzan Tamim’s body was discovered in an apartment in Rimal 1 tower, part of Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR). It is learnt that friends of the troubled singer had tried in vain to contact her on Monday night and became worried. They alerted JBR security guards who then called the police.Officers arrived immediately and found her body at 10pm. They were yesterday questioning two people in relation to her death.
It is believed Tamim was stabbed with a knife.Controversy has long stalked the star.According to the Arabic web site Elaph, the songstress secretly moved to the UAE from Cairo eight months ago. Before moving to Egypt, Tamim had also lived in Paris where she met her second husband, music producer Adel Ma’touq, who she is believed to have married in 2002. However, while Ma’touq always maintained he was married to Tamim, the singer insisted he was only her business manager and not her husband.
In 2004, Tamim was questioned by Lebanese police over the attempted murder of Ma’touq, whose car was shot at as he drove through Lebanon.Ma’touq refused to accuse Tamim but did file a lawsuit against her, accusing her of stealing $350,000.
Dubai Properties, which developed and manages JBR, said in a statement: “On Monday, July 28, a person was found dead in an apartment in the Rimal sector of Jumeirah Beach Residence. “JBR authorities took immediate action and notified Dubai Police. Dubai Properties will provide every assistance to the police investigation.”Rimal 1 tenants said they were shocked at the tragic incident. One told an online forum: “Returning home we were met with some horrific news.
“The lift stopped on floor 22 where there was utter mayhem... Officers and forensics were everywhere. Forensic officers entered the lift confirming a woman had been killed unlawfully.”Another resident added: “We live on the plaza level and had more than 20 policemen trying to view security footage all night... I hope they find the killer.”Tamim shot to fame in 1996 after she participated in the ‘Studio Al Fan’ television show and won the top award. She went on to release two albums.
