Bringing youth, strength at booth level will help Congress win: Jairam Ramesh

Kolkata, Jan 29 (IANS): Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Sunday said that bringing youngsters to the forefront and strengthening the party at the booth level will help the Congress to end the Narendra Modi regime in the 2019 elections.

"Gujarat election has been a game changer for the Congress and I think we almost pulled it off... We put BJP on the defensive and they were rattled. They were thinking 150 seats and got 99," he told IANS in an interview.

Expressing confidence in the party's new President Rahul Gandhi, he said, Gandhi is bringing youngsters to the top leadership.

"The new President is bringing in youngsters. Old people including me should actually fade away. Sixty year old should be told you are retiring. Seventy year old should be told you are retired. That is what you need to build ultimately," Ramesh said here.

"I am hundred per cent sure we are winning Karnataka. Climate will begin to change. If election is held today in Rajasthan, we will win," he said.

According to him, people are "getting fed up with (Prime Minister) Modi" and "there is emergency type of atmosphere" in the country.
