Mangaluru, Jan 29: Lourdes Central School organised ‘Jyothi Pradhan’ for the outgoing students of class X and XII in the Bejai church hall on January 27.
Parents of the students also took part in the symbolic ceremony. The programme began by invoking God’s blessings through a prayer song. Sharmila Colaco, physics teacher of class XII accorded a cordial welcome to the manager Fr Wilson Vitus D’souza, principal Fr Robert D’souza, vice principal Belita Mascarenhas, parent fraternity Ramona Mathias and Andrew D’Cunha, parents and the outgoing students of LCS.
Importance of the day was highlighted by the vice-principal. In her address, she emphasised on the famous quote ‘Be the light of the world, so that others may look to you and not look down on you’.
A divine ambience was created through a prayer reflection by Deepa D’souza, the English co-ordinator and Shaila, the English teacher. Parent and student representatives read out the Prayer of the Faithful. The ceremony was inaugurated symbolically by lighting of the traditional Lamp, by the manager, principal and vice-principal. Then the class teachers of class X and XII, passed on the light to the student representatives. The Head boy Gavin Abner Pinto administered the oath to all the students, teachers, parents and student representatives. Fr principal prayed for their future and sprinkled holy water on the children.
Siddharth D’Silva of Class X and Rhea Kishore reminisced their fulfilled days in school, their hours of learning and expressed their gratitude to the principal, teachers and alma mater. Student representatives of Class X and Class XII presented a gift to Fr principal expressing their love and devotion to their alma mater.
Fr Principal in his address urged students to focus on studies and to do well in their forthcoming exams. He further encouraged students to be positive and never to be disheartened when things go wrong but work hard to excel.
Fr Wilson who presided over the programme urged the students to uphold the value based education imparted to them and more importantly spread the values wherever their journey takes them.
The school management felicitated each student with a memento. A spectacular power point presentation filled with mixed emotions of student life of class X and XII in Lourdes was presented by Chandini and Girish, computer teachers.
Gowri Ravi, social science teacher compered the programme. Linet D’Souza the science co-coordinator delivered the vote of thanks. The programme concluded with the school anthem.
