Mangaluru, Jan 29: “Nobody wants to be in prison, but this under-construction prison will be a full-fledged building and a model in the state. Though the construction is progressing in stages, we plan to complete it within next three years,” said minister of food and civil supplies, U T Khader.

He was speaking here on January 27 after laying foundation for the boundary wall of the prison to be built at Kurnadu and Chelooru, Bantwal.

“Though road from Moolooru to KIDB is in good condition, the road from Mudipu to Moolooru would undergo necessary repairs. Nearly ten medical industry representatives who had thought of opening industries here have backed out saying that the road is bad. Therefore, PWD officials should make use of the funds released effectively to construct roads. Traffic density will increase here after construction of prison and heavy vehicle training centre. The area will be improved after that and business also will increase,” he said.

Bantwal PWD sub division assistant executive engineer Umesh Bhat said that PWD and inland water transport chief engineer have given their technical approval for new project. “A proposal for boundary wall costing Rs two crore and to identify land with an area of 63.89 acres is taken up. The estimated cost includes construction of 2830 meters walls made up of cement and laterite stones on the foundation of granite stones, fencing with JI cables, iron gate, bore well and pump. The well-equipped prison will come up at a cost of Rs 203 crore in three years,” he said.

District panchayat member Mamatha Gatti, Mudipu block congress president Prashanth Kajava, jail official B R Andan, KIADB officer Kumarappa, Congress block in-charge Rajashekar Kotian, taluk panchayat member Haider Kairangala, Padmavathi, Umavathi, Pajir gram panchayat president Seetharam Shetty, taluk panchayat former member Ummar
Fajir, Ganesh Poojary, KIDB and prison officials, Mudupi block Congress chief secretary Abdul Jaleel Montugoli, Nasir Nadupadav, Kurnad grama panchayat former president Devadas Bhandary Kurnad and Padmanabha Naringana were present.

Ira gram panchayat president Abdul Razak Kukkaje compered the programme.

‘Do not indulge in politics in the case of Zaibunnisa’

“No party or organizations should resort to politics in dead body and death. Only families know the grief for the dead. Instead of disappearing after causing noise, console the aggrieved family,” said minister U T Khader.

Speaking to reporters he said that politics over death without knowing the facts is condemnable. “The relatives of the girl had telephoned from abroad twenty days ago and informed about the problems in the hostel. I had first received a call on the day the girl committed suicide. As I received several calls, I telephoned local corporator Suahil and asked him to contact the relatives of Zaibunnisa. Her mother telephoned and cried to release the dead body of the daughter. Warden Ravi, the suspect has already been arrested. The government will not remain behind in taking legal action. No amount of compensation will fill the loss. The deputy commissioner has been asked to provide Rs two lac from minority funds on government level, Rs two lac from special compensation fund of the chief minister, Rs fifty thousand from the department of education and Rs three lac from legal services authority. Let there be no confusion by talk sitting abroad without knowledge,” he said.
