Karkala, Jan 29: Aero Club Nitte, a team of multidisciplinary undergraduate engineering students of NMAM Institution of Technology, Nitte in Udupi District has secured 1st and 2nd positions at East Zonal of Boeing IIT National Aeromodeling Competition organized by Boeing India at IIT Kharagpur.
Dishan Saliyan as pilot with team members Srinidhi K N and Nikhil Arvind Shenoy bagged 1st place and Amoghavarsha Bhat as pilot with team member Josvin Corda bagged 2nd place in the competition. They were among the mighty 80 teams from various institutions of the country. With this achievement the legacy of Karthik B, who was 1st runner-up last year at IIT Kanpur, has been continued.
The teams had to design, fabricate and demonstrate a fixed wing remote controlled aircraft system that could perform gliding and maneuvering through the arena with given set of constraints. Dishan and Amogh, being 1st Year Engineering students have performed distinctly well with their piloting skills and have been awarded winner and 1st runner uprespectively. The team had practiced hard with dedication from past 4 months and their efforts paid off with this achievement. Their teams will be representing at the finale of the competition, among the 12 best teams of the nation from different zonals at IIT Delhi later this year.
Aero Club consists of 24 members lead by Chethan who is president of the club, who have worked behind the stage to design and fabricate the model aircrafts. The pilots were trained by alumni of the club Ananth E., who is currently working at Skylark Drones, Bengaluru and Karthik B who is working at Infinity Drones, Udupiandguided by Pratheek P B, Shreesha K S and Goutam Naik. The club is managed by Dr Gururaj Upadhyaya and Prof Raghavendra Pai of department of Mechanical Engineering, who are Staff and Technical Coordinators respectively. The team is constantly mentored by Prof Shashank Shetty, staff coordinator of Centre For Student Innovations (CFSI), NMAMIT.
