Mangalore, Jul 31: During the last 24 hours, coastal region, south interior and north interior parts of the State received good rains. Bhagamandala in Kodagu district recorded the highest rainfall of 13 cms.

Agumbe received 12 cms of rain, followed by Mangalore Airport and Sullia at 9 cms, Bantwal, Beltangady and Subrahmanya 8cms each, Dharmasthala, Panambur, Karkala at 7 cms each, Mulky, Udupi, Puttur at 5 cms each, Mangalore 4 cms and Kundapur 2 cms. The meteorological department has predicted wide-spread rains all over the coastal region and other parts of the state during the next 48 hours.

Citizens and pilgrims of temple town Subrahmanya continued to suffer as connectivity to the town repeatedly got severed as bridges leading to the town got inundated frequently. As the water levels in the rivers abated after about two days of relentless surge, thousands of labourers, students and pilgrims came to Subrahmanya. But by the afternoon, bridges went under water due to heavy rains and people got stranded there. Power supply to the town was disrupted after a huge tree fell on the power lines.

A house belonging to Shanta Kharvi from Gangolli near Kundapur was destroyed due to the incessant rains the region has been receiving since the last two days. The roof of the house collapsed to the ground.
