Udupi, Jul 31: Addressing a protest demonstration against Jihadi Terrorism organized under the leadership of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti here on Tuesday July 29, Vishwa Hindu Parishat leader Balaji Raghavendra Acharya said that terrorism activities have long been accounting for hundreds of innocent lives. The politicians have not faced any serious problems as a direct consequence of terrorism. There are instances in which the politicians have succeeded in earning the sympathy of the people in the name of terrorism for their own ends, but failed to do anything after rising to power, he complained.
Terrorism should directly affect the politicians. People should take them to task, citing their failure to tackle terrorism. Banning a few organizations in the name of terrorism is a futile exercise and yields limited results. Banned outfits tend to emerge again with new names, he said.
Hindu Rakshana Vedike leader Madhukar Mudradi wanted that the police be delegated with the powers to shoot at the terrorists as soon as they are sighted. The country should be governed by a uniform law, he opined.
Earlier to this, Hindu workers raised slogans against terrorism. A memorandum was submitted to the authorities later, against terrorism. The memorandum cites that the government is not doing anything other than issuing statements, even though terrorism which took roots in Kashmir is slowly spreading its tentacles all over the country. Afzal, accused of attacking the parliament and convicted, has not yet been executed. POTA should be enacted again. Central and state governments should take stern steps against terrorist activities. Intelligence should be beefed up and its reports should be considered seriously, the memorandum demanded.
Spokesperson of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti state spokesperson Rajesh, Hindu Yuvasene general secretary Vasudev Bhat and several others were present.
