SC notice to Rajasthan, UP, Haryana over cow vigilantism

New Delhi, Jan 30 (DHNS): The Supreme Court on Monday sought response from the governments of Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh on a petition that the states failed to comply with the order to take stern steps to stop violence in the name of cow vigilantism.

A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud issued notices and sought replies from the three states by April 3, acting on a plea filed by Tushar Gandhi, the great grandson of Mahatma Gandhi.

Senior advocate Indira Jaising, appearing for Tushar Gandhi, said that despite the Supreme Court order, violent incidents were still being witnessed in various parts of these states.

The apex court had on September 6 last year directed the states to take measures to stop violence in the name of cow protection, including appointment of senior police officers as nodal officers in every district within a week and prompt action to check cow vigilantes from behaving like they were "law unto themselves".

If these jobless are so society concerned, stop rapes by catching the rapists, identify hospitals/clinics doing abortions of girl child, cry for good teachers where are none or not enough qualified. Supreme court should order these to pick up stray cows and look after them by the incomes being generated out of these, without any government grant.

Governance with accountabilty is the norm of a sane democracy. Governance anyhow without proper accountability leads to anarchy. The human life is most sacred and other values come only after that.
