Udupi: City Municipality Council adopts surplus budget of Rs 1.06 crore

Udupi, Jan 30: The City Municipality Council (CMC) adopted a surplus amount of Rs 1.06 crore for fiscal year 2018-19 at its general body meeting held on Monday, January 29.

The beginning balance amount is at Rs 28.69 crore, and the total receipts are at Rs 62.61 crore. The total income is Rs 91.30 crore and total expenditure is Rs 90.24 crores, president Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje showed in the budget.

She described the expected income from the central and state financial Commission and said, “A total Rs 5.67 crore is expected from the 14th Central Finance commission, Rs 5.27 crore from State Finance commission fund, Rs 4.43 crore from State Finance commission under employees grant, Rs 7.27 crore from State Finance commission grants for electricity bill, Rs 75 lac under Amruth scheme, a special grant Rs 10 crore from SFC, Rs 2 crore under Swachh Bharath Mission and Rs 1.66 crore grants from SCSP/TSP.

“We are expecting income from other sources which incluides Rs 10 lac from MP/MLA members fund and Rs 20 lac from Nalm schemes.

“Rs 11.20 crore from CMC property tax, Rs 60 lac from trade license and advertisements, Rs 40 lac from licenses for buildings, Rs 90 lac of income from water supply, Rs 16 lac from underground drainage and Rs 15 lac from commercial complexes belonging to CMC.

“The total expected expenses for administrative expenses Rs 4.71 crore and Rs 4.21 crore for office maintenance, and Rs 2.40 crore for public welfare projects have been reserved. Rs 1.40 crore is fixed for the maintenance of street lights, Rs 3.5 crore for water supply and Rs 20 lac for maintenance, Rs 7.9 crore kept for sanitation and solid waste management and Rs 2.35 crore is reserved for development of infrastructures, Rs 25 lac for parking maintenance and Rs 1.03 crore for its repair works.

“Rs 39 lac for poor welfare fund under SFC and Rs 16 lac under CMC fund, Rs 16 lac for disability relief fund and Rs 20 lac for Nalm scheme have been reserved. Some amounts has been reserved for the development of infrastructure, sports, greenery, small bridges and so on.

“The CMC has also decided to construct a new office building at old taluk office ( Rs 1.29 acre of land) at a cost Rs 15 crore,” she said.

Senior opposition member M R Pai appreciated the plan of making CMC a paperless office and making city free of sodium lights. He criticised the CMC as it did not consulted all the 35 ward members.

Chandrakanth, Gopalpur ward councilor appreciated the proposal of shifting Santhekatte market. A tender has been called for constructing a market at a cost Rs 99.50 lac.

Commissioner Manjunathayya and vice-president Sandhya Thilakraj was present.
