Mangaluru, Jan 30: An advocate from Kalaburagi has honoured two bravehearts, Mazeed and Shekar, for helping Deepak and Basheer who were murdered at Katipalla and Kottara Chowki respectively earlier this month. A cheque was handed over through the district administration at DC's office here on Tuesday January 30.

It may be recalled that Mazeed and Shekar took the victims to the hospital after they were brutally assaulted by miscreants on January 3. Unfortunately, both lost their lives.

Commending Mazeed and Shekar for their humanitarian act, the advocate from Kalaburagi has sent a cheque of Rs 50,000 each for helping Basheer and Deepak Rao.

Additional deputy commissioner ADC Kumar said, "Abdul Mazeed and Shekar Kulal had hit headlines after they came to help the victims belonging to different communities. This good and noble work has been commended by P Vilas Kumar, an advocate hailing from Kalaburagi, who decided to honour Mazeed and Shekar and sent a cheque of Rs 50,000 each with a letter stating of commendation. To ensure that the amount reaches them directly, he took the help of the district administration. Today we are handing over the cheques to Abdul Mazeed and Shekar Kulal.

Two cheques of Rs 50,000 each were handed over to Mazeed and Shekar by DCP (law and order) Hanumantharaya and ADC Kumar.

Humbly accepting the cheque, Mazeed said, "We could not save the lives of Deepak and Basheer, so this reward was not needed."

Mazeed and Shekar also explained how they reacted at the spot during the incidents.

DCP law and order Hanumantharaya on a query from media said that good Samaritans who help the victims in such cases like Deepak Rao and Basheer murder, would be given protection and not be questioned by police.

Advocate P Vilas Kumar has said that Mazeed and Shekar have shown true secularism and humanity. In a press note, he has also praised the state government for handling the situation wisely.

He has mentioned that due to preoccupations, he could not personally come and hand over the cheques.

First of all let me congratulate Kalaburagi advocate for his noble act by rewarding two for helping Deepak and Basheer during attack. I also appreciate and commend both Shekar and Mazeed for their timely act on humanitarian ground. One should learn from both Shekar and Mazeed and Kalaburagi advocate, what exactly the humanity. Shame on politicians. They may go to any extent just for vote bank. They should experience the same fate what Deepak and Basheer's family undergone due to their murder.
All the political leaders sowing the seed of venom among the people and creating confusion, enmity and disharmony and leaders are sitting at their air conditioned home and enjoying the fun. Poor and innocent lives are the victims. Their parents are the losers. Politics in the name of religion should stop first. Lives of poor and innocent people should be saved. They should not become the victims of vote bank. Attack political leaders, don’t mind. Then only they will realize the value of the life of others.
Great and commendable job done by Kalaburagi advocate, Shekar and Mazeed.God bless them to do more and more such humanitarian jobs.

Firstly, Kalaburagi should be congratulated for such a noble act to unite communities. Deepak and Basheer just happen to be two good men who unfortunately met a tragic end. Mazeed and Shekar also did their best to save the two lives with all good intentions. There is a dire need to build help centres in all areas where there is hatred and these help centres should be manned by all communities. Whenever there is communal tension, these help centres with the help of volunteers should pour water on the fire. These help centres should organise regular goodwill meetings in the vicinity and politics should have no place there. If the politicians of all areas in our country put their money and start such voluntary centres I can guarantee you that there will be peace always. Think about it and let the citizens of our country come forward to open such activities for our community. DENZIL FERNANDES, MANGALORE

Rathan, Mangalore. The people I have named in my comments do not need a certificate about the heinous crime they commit by spewing venom in public against the community they were not born into.

Don't go by what I say. Their statements are a testimony to the the disdain they harbour for a particular community. We are all human beings no matter which community we are born into. Learn to unite, not divide.

I reiterate I don't support any political party but always call a spade a spade. It might happen my comments may not be palatable to persons who blindly support a particular party no matter what. Ask the people from the party you support to do something to stitch the two communities together. I promise you, I will be very generous in commending their efforts.

It is a slap on the face of the politicians. By and large, the politicians especially Shobha and Hegde are busy trying their best to divide the people on the basis of religion but this kind hearted man from Kalaburgi has shown that humanity still exists. It is not the amount that matters, it is the act that deserves praise from all peace loving people. I request everybody to isolate those politicians who are trying to drive a wedge among people from various communities. Shame them no matter which party they belong to.
