Mangalore, Jul 31: Lourdes Central School, Bejai hosted an inter-school quiz competition titled 'Quiz Par Excellence - 2008' at the Bejai church hall on Thursday July 31 morning. Schools affiliated to CBSE and ICSE Boards from Udupi and DK districts were eligible to take part in this event. The programme was sponsored by Shriram Group of Companies, Chennai.
Fr Joseph Peter Tauro, manager of Lourdes Central School inaugurated the event. Vishwas Kamath, a popular radio jockey from Radio Mirchie was the quiz master.
After the preliminary rounds in which 19 teams participated, six selected teams participated in the final round of the quiz programme held between 11.30 am and 1.30 pm. District deputy commissioner M Maheshwar Rao was the chief guest. Shriram Group of Companies executive director Ronald D'Souza and Bejai parish council vice-president Joseph Nazareth were the guests of honour who graced the occasion.
The six teams that made to the final round of the quiz programme were Sri Satya Sai Lokaseva Vidya Kendra Alike, Little Rock Indian School Brahmavar, Lourdes Central School Mangalore, Sharada Residential School Mangalore, St Theresa School Bendoor Mangalore and Laxmi Janardan High School Belman.
St Theresa School Bendoor represented by its students Rajath and Karthik Ramakrishnan bagged the first prize. Little Rock Indian School Brahmavar team comprising of Shreya V K and Arjun Raghunath stood second.
Lourdes school team was made of Nathan Pereira and Akash Rodrigues, Sharada Residential School was represented by Tejas DP and Prathyush S Barad, Sri Satya Sai Vidya Kendra's team comprised of Sharath M Manya and Nidhi B R while Laxmi Janardana School team was made up of Sathwik and Sagar J Shetty.
Deputy Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao, guests of honour Ronad D'Souza and Joseph Nazareth, Fr Joseph Peter Tauro, principal Grace Noronha and quiz master Vishwas Kamath were at the dais during the prize distribution function. DC Maheshwar Rao gave away the prizes.
Lourdes Central School principal Grace Noronha delivered the welcome address. School manager Fr Joseph Peter Tauro presided. Joy Rai compered the programme. Anita Thomas proposed vote of thanks.
