Udupi, Aug 1: The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV), staged a protest in front of the service bus stand here, on Thursday, July 31, urging the state government to prevent the screening of Rajnikant starrer ‘Kuchelan’. The Tamil movie supports Tamil Nadu’s demand for a  large share of water from Karnataka’s Hogenakkal project.

Satish S Kalmady, president, KRV district unit, said that the producers and directors of the movie are trying to fool Kannadigas by writing a letter to the Karnataka Films Chamber of Commerce (KFCC), seeking permission to screen the movie. KRV would not spare those who have disgraced Kannada, Kannadigas, Karnataka, and its water bodies, warned Kalmady.

The entire Kannadiga populace demands an apology from Rajnikant, screening of whose movies will not be allowed in the state, if he does not heed our demand, he said. Shashidar Shettigar, Krishna Rao, Dhanapal Poojary, and Prakash Uppinakote were part of the protest.

The protesters presented copies of their memorandum to various theatre owners in the city. They also burnt cutouts of Rajnikant and hailed Karnataka.
