Keep RSS-linked officers away from MP Assembly polls: CPI-M

Bhopal, Feb 1 (IANS): The CPI-M's Madhya Pradesh unit on Wednesday urged the Election Commission to keep officers linked with the RSS away from the electoral process to ensure fair Assembly elections in the state.

"The Election Commission's aim is to ensure free and fair elections. But free and fair elections cannot be expected from officers owing allegiance to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)," CPI-M's state unit leader Jaswinder Singh told the media here.

The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader said RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, during his tours of different district of Madhya Pradesh, had talked of providing the Bharatiya Janata Party with new volunteers to ensure the ruling party's victory in the November-December polls.

He urged the poll panel to earmark such officers who visited RSS meetings and keep them away from election duties.

The Left leader said the EC should also inquire into the income sources of the RSS since it was meddling in politics.

The last Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh were held in November 2013 and the results declared in December that year.
