Bangalore, Aug 1: Energy minister K S Eshwarappa informed the legislative assembly on Thursday July 31 that the government has decided to lift power cuts in the state from today, in view of the improved power generation.
Making a voluntary statement as soon as the session assembled, the minister also said that the state has abandoned plans of buying online power from the energy exchange centre of the union government. The hydel power generated in the state has gone upto 23.92 crore units, split up between Linganamakki reservoir - 14.10 crore units, Supa - 6.92 crore units and Mani - 2.90 crore units, he explained. However, the water levels in these reservoirs is less than the level witnessed in the previous year during this period. Bellary thermal power plant which has successfully begun operations will generate 100 mega watts of power by Friday August 1, he added.
Maintenance works are on at Raichur thermal power plant to ensure that all the seven units function properly. The targeted output from these units is 3.2 crore units. The government will also get one crore units of power through wind power, he said.
Chief minister B S Yeddyurappa has declared that farmers who have installed pumpsets upto 10 HP will be provided with free power from Friday August 1. To be eligible for free power, they have to install meters, he stated.
Replying to discussions on budget proposals in the legislative council, he asked the farmers not to lend an ear to rumours but to get electric meters installed immediately to avail of this benefit. This ambitious scheme will benefit 17 lac farmers of the state, he informed.
