Mangaluru: Central excise & GST commissionerate holds ‘Swachhta Pakhwada’

Mangaluru, Feb 1: ‘Swachhta Pakhwada’ was celebrated in the Central Excise and Central GST Commissionerate, Mangaluru from January 16 to 31 to create awareness on the importance of swachhta among the officers and staff as well as to motivate them to inculcate swachhta as a habit in daily life. 

Commissioner of Central Excise and Central GST, Mangaluru Dr M Subramanyam formally inaugurated the Pakhwada by administering the ‘Swachhta Pledge’ to all officers and staff of the Commissionerate on January 16.

A workshop on Swachhta was conducted at the GST Seva Kendra by Swami Jitakamanandaji, secretary, Ramakrishna Mission on January 18 which was attended by all the officers and staff of the commissionerate. Swamiji gave an overview of the activities of Swachhtha conducted by Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru and motivated all to take up swachhta not just as a means to clean oneself physically and the surroundings but also as a means to uplift oneself spiritually.

The premises of Ramakrishna Mission School, Mangaluru were identified for cleaning by the team of officers and staff of the commissionerate on January 22. The team comprising of 70-80 officers led by the additional commissioner, Imamuddin Ahmad engaged themselves for 4-5 hours to clean the school and its premises by clearing out the plastic waste, paper waste and other organic wastes. The students and faculty of the school participated for cleaning and the team was felicitated by the school authorities after the cleaning work.

During the campaign, the dilapidated wall facing the Trade Centre at Bunts Hostel Road was identified for adoption and maintenance by the commissionerate. The wall is a part of the compound wall of government school in the Bunts Hostel road facing the main public road. The maintenance work included cleaning, plastering, white-washing and beautifying the wall with pictures relating to Mangaluru culture as well as customs and GST was taken up. The adoption of this public premise aims to motivate the public to maintain public areas clean, thereby contributing to the swachhta of the nation.

Further, a day was dedicated for undertaking cleaning activities of the office space by all the staff of the commissionerate. Several competitions like slogan writing and essay writing were organized among the staff and the winners were suitably rewarded.
