Udupi, Aug 1: Manipal University has won the Best in Class Award (second highest) of the International Asia Pacific Quality Awards - 2008 under education category. These awards are being promoted by Asia Pacific Quality Organization.

The university through a press release on Thursday July 31, informed that the above award would be presented at the organization's international conference of quality managers, scheduled to be held in Tehran, Iran from August 23 to 25. This award is similar in nature and content, to the U S Malcolm Baldridge Performance Excellence Award.

The said award is in its eighth year and Manipal University has bagged the award for the first time. The awards are given in four categories i.e., large manufacturing, large service, small business and education, the press release said.

The criteria for judging the entries include leadership, strategic planning and market focus, measurement, analysis and knowledge management, faculty and staff focus, process management and results.

The release by the university said that the present award that recognizes the exemplary standards being set by it, will be a feather in the cap of the university.
