Boat with 90, mostly Pakistanis, capsizes off Libya

Geneva, Feb 2 (IANS): At least 90 migrants, mostly Pakistanis, were feared to have drowned on Friday after a boat capsized off the Libyan coast, the UN's migration agency said.

According to Olivia Headon from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), 10 bodies washed up on the shores of Libya and two survivors managed to swim to safety while another was rescued by a fishing boat.

The survivors said most of those who drowned were Pakistani nationals, the BBC reported. They told the IOM that the boat sank off the coast of the northwestern city of Zuwara for unknown reasons.

The number of Pakistani people trying to cross the Mediterranean to reach Europe has grown considerably in the last few months, said Headon.

In January, 240 Pakistani nationals attempted the journey. In the same month last year there were only nine.

At least 6,624 people have arrived in Europe through Mediterranean routes so far this year and another 246 have died attempting the crossing last month, according to IOM figures.

About 2 years I was travelling in a plane from Kish ( Iran ) to Dubai .After boarding the flight I noticed that the passenger sitting next to me was not able to tie the seat belt .I just helped him as I could notice that he was flying for the first time . Then I he started talking to me as he was carrying a green passport could make out that he is a Pakistani. But still asked him where are you from .He said he is from Pakistan .When he was talking it was smelling like rotten rat ( might not have brushed the teeth) .Was not educated enough .But still as it is interesting continued talking .He said he is from Baloochistan ( Quetta City). He has been working since last 10 years in Kish ,Iran without any documents ,He crossed the Boarder through Sea into Iran in search of better life .Entered Kish Island through sea,got a job as shop helper and now going to Dubai through official channel to get the Hakama( Job Visa) .He said its all Allaha 's grace that he was never caught even though he knew it was illegal
Now thinking back I was amazed about the Faith in God he had ,also about the tireless effort he had put for a better living ,Better income etc .One thing what he said gave me an everlasting impression he said He never indulged in any immoral or criminal activity while he was staying in Iran ,Appeared to be a good human being .There may be several lakhs of innocent ,Good hard working Pakistanis .But the Govt,Military and ISI poisons their minds .
Poverty is the reason why people take hardest route to migration and then settle .
But if they indulge in terror activity then the whole Pakistanis will suffer .I pity about those 90 migrants who died thinking about the lives of their relatives
