Man shot in Bengal over business rivalry dies


Kolkata, Feb 3 (IANS): A man who was shot at in broad daylight in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district allegedly due to business rivalry died on Friday, police said.

Goutam De Sarkar, 50, a resident of Dhakaipatti in Bankimpally, was shot by some assailants in Madhyamgram Bijoynagar area.

"The incident is possibly fallout of a rivalry associated with promoting business," a police officer said.

According to locals, when Sarkar went to a salon near Bijoynagar, around eight men came riding on four motor cycles. They entered the salon and fired around 10 rounds of bullets.

Following the incident, the locals blocked the road for some time, demanding immediate arrest of the criminals.

They also protested at a police station, saying that the police inaction has resulted in the proliferation of criminal activities in the area.

According to police, the victim had a criminal record and was arrested a few months back for having dry cannabis and an illegal weapon in his possession.
