Mangalore, Aug 2: In the gram sabha of Haleangadi gram panchayat held on Thursday August 1, an important decision, opposing move to bring the village under the proposed Moodbidri taluk, was taken.
The villagers who came in large numbers to the gram sabha convened at Sasihithlu Sri Bhagawati temple hall under the presidentship of panchayat president Meena K Kotian expressed the view that the village may be brought under Mulki town panchayat or Mangalore City Corporation but not under Moodbidri taluk under any circumstances.
After the re-organization of constituencies, several villages surrounding Haleangadi are included under Mulki-Moodbidri assembly constituency. As such, they face the prospect of being made a part of the proposed Moodbidri taluk. The villagers are against the proposal, as Moodbidri, proposed taluk headquarters, is located far away from the village.
Zilla panchayat engineer Chandrashekhar acted as nodal officer. Various zilla panchayat, taluk panchayat members and officials participated in the meeting.
