Trump to establish National Vetting Centre for immigrants, visitors

Washington, Feb 6 (IANS): US President Donald Trump is expected to sign a national security memorandum on Tuesday establishing a "National Vetting Centre" to improve the vetting process of individuals entering the country.

The presidential memorandum will give the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and other agencies six months to establish the centre, an administration official told CNN.

According to the official, the centre is intended to streamline vetting and improve the flow of information between various federal agencies.

However, the memorandum will not establish any new authorities or call for any new funding to establish the centre, which will be an effort between DHS, the State Department, Justice Department and intelligence agencies, a National Security Council official said.

It remains unclear how this effort will change the way travellers and immigrants to the US are vetted.

The National Vetting Centre is part of the Trump administration's broader efforts to tighten immigration screenings, following Trump's calls for "extreme vetting" while campaigning in 2016.

This should have been done long back. But better late than never.
One of the undocumented without license & registration but with insurance caused damage to my car resulting in minor dent. His insurance company twisted the whole story. I approached the local cops where this incident happened, local DMV, various federal agencies like ICE & Department of insurance. Department insurance person verbally tried to justify that people on visitor's visa beyond expiry of their visa drive the car. At last I came to the conclusion that there is no co-ordination between the different agencies & that a person can drive a car without license & registration but need to pay the fine for driving without license if caught but he can sue a person who is licensed & take his house away if he has one if the latter is at fault. I hope that National Vetting Center would solve this problem.
