Mangaluru: Mumbai Palthans emerge champions at GSB Premier League

Mangaluru, Feb 7: Mumbai Palthans emerged champions of GSB Premier League 2018 (GPL), a floodlit Goud Saraswat Brahmin (GSB) over-arm cricket tournament was organised at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management ground on February 4.

The title sponsors of GPL 2018 were Puzzolana Group from Hyderabad. The co-sponsors of the tournament were Lotus Chocolates, Pai Sweets, Fin Power, Yajamana Industries and Astral Pipes.

The chief guests For inauguration were former team India cricket players Roger Binny and David Johnson, Binu Pila of Astral Pipes, Varadaraja Pai of Yajamana Industries, Subraya Pai of Bharath Group, and Mukund Kamath of Ideal Ice Cream.



Achuth Pai, chairman of Puzzolana Group, Niveditha Pai of Puzzolana Group, Abhijeet Pai, president of Puzzolana Group, Manjunath Bhandary of Sahayadri College, Pradeep Pai of Hangyo Ice Cream, KNVS Suresh of Suzuki Motors, and Sudhakar Kamath of Kamath Caterers were the chief guests for closing ceremony and prize distribution.

More than 15,000 to 20,000 GSBs from all over the world were present.

Roger Binny, David Johnson and Achuth Pai were felicitated.

D Vedavyas Kamath, Shivanand Shenoy, Naresh Shenoy, Chethan Kamath, and Naresh Prabhu were the promoters of GPL 2018.

A cash contribution was made to Sanidhya School, international athlete Sadananda Prabhu and national level badminton player Ananya Joshi. Rs 14 lac collected through a drive by Kodial Sports Association was donated to 11-year-old Vignesh Mallya who is suffering from bone marrow cancer and is undergoing treatment in Bengaluru.

GSB delicacies were served at various counters throughout the tournament.

Results

Mumbai Palthans emerged as the champions of GPL 2018. Kalabhairava Cricketers Karkala was the runners-up. The third place was bagged by Kodial Super Kings.

Surendra (Suri) was awarded the ‘Best Bowler’ and Chirag was given the ‘Best Batsman’ title. Prasad Nayak of Mumbai Palthans was the player who clinched the title ‘Man of the Series’ along with the all new Suzuki Gixxer.

The first ever women’s cricket match was witnessed by thousands of people at Sahyadri Grounds and was very well appreciated. Girls with Pink Jersey Gurpur Gladiators lifted the trophy of women’s cricket tournament whereas Vijaya Cricketers of Saligrama had be content with the runners-trophy. SVT Cricketers Kundapura bagged the third spot in the tournament. Shwetha Prabhu of Gurpur Gladiators lifted the ‘Player of the Series’ trophy along with cash.
