Reliance Energy's pre-summer bounty for Mumbai consumers

Mumbai, Feb 7 (IANS): Ahead of the upcoming summer season, Reliance Energy on Wednesday announced massive discounts on super-energy-efficient ceiling fans and refrigerators for its Mumbai consumers intended to slash power bills.

Under the scheme, 'Change for Mumbai', the company will offer up to 42 per cent discount on these appliances which would help consumers save drastically on their power bills, said a spokesperson.

The ceiling fans offered consume 53 per cent less electricity than conventional fans and come with a discount of 42 per cent, while two types of BEE 5-Star rated single-door fridges which consume 40 per cent less power shall be available for discounts of up to 35 per cent.

"Refrigerators and ceiling fans account for a significant portion of the electricity consumption and residential customers can save on bills by replacing their old fridges and fans with these energy-efficient appliances," the spokesperson said.

On offer are 50,000 ceiling fans and 20,000 refrigerators and consumers can avail these by registering themselves through various modes for the scheme.

The company said every year, energy efficiency and conservation programmes are taken up to facilitate adoption of power-efficient technology which can reduce the consumer demand and power purchase costs, besides cutting down on Green House Gas emissions.

Since energy-efficient appliances cost more, Reliance Energy steps in by bridging the price gap with discounts to enable the consumers purchase them.

Under this initiative, the company has so far distributed 25,000 ceiling fans, 6,500 refrigerators and 3,000 air-conditioners with 5-Star ratings at discounts, resulting in savings of 19 MUs energy among its three million electricity consumers in Mumbai suburbs spread across a 400 sq kms area.
