Mangaluru, Feb 8: Fr Wilfred Rodrigues, Superior of St. Joseph's Monastery along with other dignitaries inaugurated a free cancer screening, awareness and consultation programme here at Infant Jesus hall at Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte on Thursday, February 8. The programme is jointly organised by Infant Jesus Medical Mission and A J Hospital and Research Centre and will also be held on February 15.
Addressing the gathering, Fr Wilfred Rodrigues said, "We have been running Infant Jesus Medical Mission from the past several years. A J hospital has come forward to conduct free cancer screening, awareness and consultation, which is commendable. Awareness should be raised on how cancer can be prevented as many people lose their life to this deadly disease.”
Dr Prashanth Marla, medical director, A J Hospital and Research Centre said, “Cancer when detected at an early stage and good treatment will help patients lead a normal life. In the earlier days, there was no proper treatment for this dreaded disease. But now, the scenario has changed. When a person sees and signs and symptoms of cancer, he should consult a doctor at the earliest.”
Radiation oncologist Dr Venkataramana Kini, Dr Kavitha, pain and palliative care specialist Dr Naveen Rodrigues and others were present.
