Puttur: National symposium on mathematics held at SPC

Puttur, Feb 10: On the occasion of diamond jubilee celebrations, PG department of Mathematics of St Philomena College organized a day-long national symposium on ‘Recent Trends in Number Theory and its Applications’ on February 2 at the PG Centre seminar hall.

Professor emeritus, department of Mathematics, Mysore University Dr Ramaswamy H N inaugurated the symposium and delivered the key note address. He said, “Mathematics is the ‘Queen of all Sciences’. The number theory is the ‘Queen of Mathematics’. It is a vibrant area of mathematical research having many practical applications.”



Campus director and chairman of Centre for PG Studies Fr Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro participated as the guest of honour. Principal Prof Leo Noronha expressed his best wishes. The correspondent Fr Alfred J Pinto presided over the programme.

Crystal Jyothipriya D’Souza and team presented the prayer song. The coordinator of the PG department of Mathematics and Symposium Prof Ganesh Bhat K welcomed the gathering. Assistant professor Prasanna H M proposed the vote of thanks. Ananya V compered the programme.

In the technical sessions, Dr Somashekhara D D and Dr Chandrashekhara Adiga, professors of department of Mathematics, Mysore University participated as resource persons.

In the evening, a special felicitation programme was organized to felicitate Dr S Parameshwara Bhatta, professor emeritus, department of Mathematics, Mangalore University, who superannuated recently. HoD of Mathematics Prof Udaya K and former principal of Sri Bhuvanendra College Karkala Prof Padmanabha Gowda delivered felicitation speech. Professor emeritus, department of Mathematics, Mysore University Dr Ramaswamy H N released the profile of Dr Parameshwara Bhatta and expressed the words of fragrance. As a reply to the felicitation, Dr Parameshwara Bhatta expressed his feelings. Campus director and chairman of Centre for PG Studies Fr Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro participated as the chief guest. Principal Prof Leo Noronha delivered the presidential address.

Kshama and team presented the prayer song. Assistant professor Prasanna H M welcomed the gathering. Assistant professor of Mathematics Vaishnavi C rendered the vote of thanks. Coordinator of PG department of Mathematics Prof Ganesh Bhat K compered the programme.
